Mabel Bassett Prison Ministry
Prison ministry holds a very special place in my heart because it is where God began one of the deepest healing works in my own life.
During my first Kairos weekend at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, I expected to serve the women who were incarcerated. Instead, God met me there. As I looked across the room, I sensed Him say, “They are more free than you are, and they’re behind bars.” Those words changed everything. I realized there were areas of my own heart that still needed healing, and I began allowing God to bring freedom into my life.
That experience ignited a passion for ministering to incarcerated women. My husband, Raleigh, and I continued serving through Kairos, and together we felt called to offer a Life Recovery class inside the prison. After completing the required Department of Corrections training and receiving approval from Chaplain Shaner, we launched our first 12-step, Christ-centered Life Recovery program.

What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.
What sets us apart isn’t just our process—it’s the intention behind it.
Our first class began with 10 women, and four faithfully completed the entire program—a remarkable accomplishment, as each participant must work through every step to graduate. Today, we are leading our second class, which began with 14 women and continues with 11 dedicated participants who are courageously pursuing healing from trauma, abuse, addiction, and the hurts and habits of their past.
